2nd XI Reports
MRGS Senior B vs. Dilworth
Roskill won the toss and chose to bat on an overcast morning. Our openers put in some steady run s and reached over 50 without loss. The first of the openers Bhargav Dave was caught on 22 but the other opener Akshat Malhotra went on to score 63 before he was given out on an LBW decision.
Other batsmen contributed to the growing Roskill total and we were soon over 150.
Jiwan Singh a new 2nd XI player this year produced some stylish strokes reaching 31 before he was run out in a midwicket mix-up.
Krishant Sen the team captain came to the crease and put in a strong performance scoring 71 not out – an innings that included 6 sixes and many other boundaries.
Roskill finished on 212 for 4 after their 23 overs.
Dilworth then went in and were immediately put under bowling pressure – runs were scarce and even after half of the allotted 23 overs they had not reached 50.
Wickets fell for the visiting side with a number of stumpings when batsmen were drawn out of their crease with expertly flighted spin bowling.
At theend of the 23 overs Dilworth had only scored 81 runs and had lost 7 wickets.
Roskill 2nd XI thus won by 131 runs and have started their season with a steady performance.
They have a lot to live up to this year having won their grade last year remaining unbeaten for the whole season.
MRGS Senior B vs. Lynfield
Roskill lost the toss and were put into bat by Lynfield – Roskill built a steady total and despite giving away two early wickets with lofted catches they reached a total of 213 for 6 wickets after their 26 overs. There was a 106 partnership between Kevin Johnson (46) and Bhargav Dave (96) which set up the competitive total.
Lynfield went in and were quickly under pressure losing their openers for less than 20 runs. They made some advances but gradually lost their wickets – being dismissed finally for 104 in the 23rd over.
This is the 2nd successive win for the 2nd XI.
MRGS Senior B vs. Botany Downs
Roskill lost the toss and were put into bat by Botany – Roskill built a steady total and despite giving away three early wickets with lofted catches they reached a total of 209 for 5 wickets after their 23 overs. There was a lengthy partnership between Kevin Johnson (58) and Bhargav Dave (52) which set up a competitive total and after Bhargav’s dismissal Kevin remained in to steer the side to a commanding total.
Botany went in and were quickly under pressure losing their openers for less than 20 runs. They managed some short patches of scoring but gradually lost their wickets – being dismissed finally for 73 in the 14th over.
