Visual Arts - Toi Ataata

Te toi whakairo, ka ihiihi, ka wehiwehi, ka aweawe te ao katoa.

Artistic excellence makes the world sit up in wonder.

The Visual Arts Department at Mount Roskill Grammar School is a small but vibrant department with a team of dedicated teachers trained in a wide variety of disciplines. We offer a full range of subjects from Junior Practical Art to Year 13 Design, Painting, Printmaking, Photography and Art History.

Situated on two floors of A Block and facing northward, the rooms are extremely well equipped with facilities which would be the envy of many larger Visual Arts Departments.

These include a Mac-equipped computer lab with the latest version of Photoshop Elements and a professional quality A3 laser printer for Design students, a spacious darkroom and photographic studio as well as digital SLR cameras for Photography students’ use, and a specialist teaching space for Art History.

The aesthetic and technical training that students receive at the senior level in the Visual Arts Department provides a valuable basis for entry into further education at tertiary level, and our students have a sound record of gaining positions at tertiary art and design institutions.

Visit the MRGS Visual Arts blog where you will find links to contemporary artists' websites that senior art students are studying in their research assignments.
