Mission Statement

Mount Roskill Grammar School will provide, within a professional framework, a learning environment for all students to strive for excellence and to develop their personal potential, understanding of social responsibility, and respect for individual and cultural differences.

Vision

This statement was prepared in consultation with the Board of Trustees, Parents, Principal and Staff to help set the direction of the School in the years ahead. The changes taking place in senior school courses mean that there will be greater diversity in the way this vision will be implemented. Implicit in the vision are the Charter Objectives which the School is obliged to meet.

  • The School will encourage the pursuit of personal excellence, hard work, cooperation, and respect for others, a sense of social justice, self responsibility, leadership and service.
  • Educational achievement will be the primary goal.
  • Students will be encouraged to learn cooperatively and independently and to develop skills and work habits with a view to further education or employment when they leave school.
  • The School will provide a safe, caring and structured environment for students and staff. The support and discipline networks will assist students to reach their potential. Our school culture will be typified by respectful interactions among and between staff and students.
  • A wide range of extra and co curricular activities will be offered to students and they will be encouraged to participate. Personal health and physical fitness will be actively encouraged.
  • The School acknowledges the Treaty of Waitangi and the role it plays in both the curriculum and wider school life.
  • All staff and students will be encouraged to learn about, respect and celebrate individual diversity and cultural differences.
  • The School will recruit and retain the best possible staff, and provide professional development to maintain high standards.
  • The School will provide educational leadership to the community it serves.

WITHIN THE SCHOOL WE AIM TO

  1. Educate every student to the best of his or her ability - intellectual, physical, cultural, emotional, social and spiritual.
  2. Help every student to fit into society as neighbour, citizen and worker.
  3. Provide the opportunity for every student to experience a feeling of achievement or success and to recognise such achievement, both in and out of the classroom.
  4. Reward effort and encourage excellence.
  5. Foster a concern for others and a respect for cultural differences.
  6. Inspire high standards and expectations of our students. It is the School’s task to see every young person as having individual worth, to regard him/her in the best light, to raise his/her self-esteem, to set high standards for him/her and to promote his/her self-image.
