Academic Successes

We are proud of the results of our students. They are the result of effective teaching and learning over a number of years of study. In this area you will find a summary of the highlights of our most recent results as well as summaries of results from previous years.

2009 academic results pleasing

2009 was yet another very good year for NCEA and scholarship results at Mt Roskill Grammar School. With Level 1 pass rates at their highest level ever and 48 scholarships, including 5 outstanding scholarships, Mt, Roskill students have, again performed in exams to the highest levels of quality.

2009 External Examinations

Our pass rates in the external examinations were outstanding and at all three levels of NCEA well exceeded national levels in 2009. The high quality of academic achievement at MRGS dominates the statistics. Excellence rates in external examinations were again well above national levels across the board from Levels 1 to 3.

 

NCEA Certificate Pass Rates

Our NCEA pass rates were again very good and, at 65%, our Level 1 pass rate was our highest ever.

Excellence and Merit Endorsements in 2009 NCEA

The high quality of academic achievement at MRGS dominates the statistics. Excellence rates in external examinations were again well above national levels across the board from Levels 1 to 3. 15% of all Year 11 students gaining Level 1, received an “Excellence Endorsement” for achieving more than 50 credits at excellence level. At levels 2 and 3, 9% of students gaining an NCEA certificate received excellence endorsements. These figures are almost double national averages. In addition, merit endorsements were gained at rates well above the national levels (see graphs below).

Numeracy and Literacy

The MRGS numeracy pass rate was also higher than ever at 97%, well above national rates. Our literacy pass rate well exceeded national levels and at 79.3%, was our second highest since NCEA began.

2009 Scholarship Results

Mt. Roskill Grammar School students have again performed successfully in the scholarship examinations. A total of 48 scholarships were gained, including five at the “outstanding scholarship” level. Special congratulations go to Abhilash Kamineni who gained six scholarships including two outstanding scholarships. Cornelia Mu is also commended for her five scholarships including one at outstanding level.

Scholarship Analysis for Teaching and Learning

Mt. Roskill Grammar School has a long and proud history of performing highly in the scholarships examinations.

If you are a student intending to sit scholarship, it is useful for you to know clearly what will be expected of you in the examinations. Who better to tell you what is expected than the examiners themselves. Cheryl Harvey and Jennifer Glenn, secondary facilitators from Team Solutions at the University of Auckland, have compiled a list of what the examiners say they are looking for when questions contain certain words, such as Analyse, Critically Analyse, Evaluate, Synthesise or Create/Show Original Thinking.
