Greg Watson (Principal) started as a Science teacher and has held leadership positions in a range of schools before becoming Principal at MRGS in 2006. His aim is to provide an educational atmosphere where academic success and growth as citizens is expected for every student. Greg enjoys seeing the attitude of excellence become habits of action. A recipient of the Woolf Fisher Trust Fellowship he is enjoying leading a community focused on learning and achievement.

Terry Storer (Associate Principal) has taught in England, Venezuela, Tanzania, Oman,Vietnam and New Zealand in a variety of middle and senior management roles. He joined Roskill in 2017 after working for ACG group as Deputy Executive Principal in an international school in Vietnam. His portfolio of school culture involves the day-to-day operations of the school, overseeing the pastoral network and profile/publications. In addition he is the liaison for international students at MRGS. Terry is passionate about supporting all students to succeed and develop the skills and attitudes that will make them powerful contributors in school and beyond.

Janine Tupaea (Associate Principal) joined MRGS in 2017 from her former position of Deputy Principal – Student Achievement at Makoura College in Masterton. Prior to becoming a Deputy Principal she had teaching and Head of Department experience in both New Zealand and the Cook Islands.  In her Associate Principal role she oversees the Curriculum within the college and aspects of her specific portfolios include student achievement, tracking and learning pathways.  She sees MRGS as a wonderfully rich learning environment where students succeed, and diversity is embraced and celebrated.

Beverley Wong (Business Manager) comes from a corporate background in financial work in the FMCG/retail sector. She has been at MRGS for a number of years as the principal person managing and overseeing the school’s support services and commercial units. Her portfolio involves administering financial planning and operational budgets with respect to the school’s strategic plan. Her role covers the management and development of property and buildings. She ensures that there is sound financial planning to assist the school to achieve its learning outcomes.

Karen Collins (Deputy Principal) started her teaching career at MRGS in 1998. She has been a house leader, teacher in charge of level one and level two English and year 13 academic dean. In her current role she oversees the school’s academic programme in addition to mentoring and reporting. She considers it a privilege to work with and learn alongside the students, staff and families of the Roskill learning community.

Keith Hall (Deputy Principal) began teaching at Kelston Boys in 1976 moving to MRGS as HOD Geography. He was HOD Social Studies and Year 13 dean before joining the Senior Leadership team in 2001. He has always been involved with rugby teams, touring with many groups and currently he manages the 1stXV team. His responsibilities include staffing, Health and Safety and School Property/Environment. Every day he enjoys the prospect of sharing learning with each friendly, enthusiastic and motivated student.

Desmond Pemerika (Deputy Principal) is born and bred in Auckland and attended Lynfield College as a student. He has held Dean, Head of Department and Deputy Principal positions as previous roles before coming to Mt Roskill Grammar School. Desmond is excited to be part of the MRGS community and understands the importance of working with staff and families supporting and nurturing our students to succeed. He has within his portfolio Maori achievement, sport, sport academies, property, wider education and health and safety.

Nicole Peterson (Deputy Principal) Trained as an Art/Technology teacher and taught at Diocesan before becoming Head of Department at Westlake Boys and then Head of Faculty at Massey High school. In 2013 Nicole undertook personal development completing a Post Graduate degree in Education and then a Masters in Educational Leadership which facilitated a step into supporting teacher development within a position at Team solutions on the Ministry of Education secondary student achievement project, where the focus of the work was supporting teachers in a range of schools across the North Island to continue to develop achievement outcomes for Maori and Pasifika learners. Nicole supports e-learning, pedagogy, professional learning, Pasifika achievement and Teacher HR within her portfolio.

Xanthe Sulzberger (Deputy Principal) has had many differing roles in education in both senior and middle management. She started her teaching at Waiopehu College in Levin before moving to Aquinas College in Tauranga and then to Botany Downs Secondary College. More recently she has worked with the Ministry of Education initiative Best Evidence Synthesis on e-based Learning Logs and raising student achievement. Within her Curriculum portfolio she has responsibility for E learning, assessment and the school’s IT network.
