************************************************************************************************************** Career counsellors are available at interval and lunchtime for short discussions about future education, training and career pathways with students. No appointments are required during these times.
Individual Career Counselling
Students with career issues can request one-on-one interviews through an appointments book based in the Career Department. This service is open to students at all levels within the school and includes assistance with CVs.
Year 13 Career Interviews
Every Year 13 student will be interviewed during the first half of the year. These interviews are in-depth with an opportunity for follow up when needed.
Other year levels
Year 12 students are interviewed on a case-by-case basis, along with anyone thinking about leaving school before Year 13. Year 10 and 11 students receive specific help with options as well as a class visit/discussion forum provided by one of our career counsellors.
General information about careers is also delivered through career education units by the Health and Social Studies teachers.
The Events
Māori and Pasifika Events
Māori and Pasifika students attend a number of career events, such as STEAM, a University of Auckland science-related day for Year 10 students and Enginuity Day which encourages girls to consider engineering careers. Career Services also organises regular career Sono and Fono that Mt Roskill Grammar students attend.
Guest Speakers
The Department invites a range of guest speakers from universities, private providers, trades training, Armed Forces, Police etc. The speakers usually come to the Career Department on Thursday lunchtimes during term time.
Career Trips
Trips to a range of providers are organised for students who are considering leaving school before the end of the year. Other trip opportunities, such as Open Days at Auckland University, AUT and Unitec are organised as required. The Department will also help students get in touch with providers to talk about courses on a one-on-one basis.
Career Expos
The Mt Roskill Careers Expo has been a highly successful annual event that runs on Senior Report Evening in July every second year, attracting between 40 and 50 providers to the school to meet with students and parents. Hundreds of people attend these events.
