The first round of competition has ended with a thrilling final game against Macleans College. We needed to win to advance to the Super City competition.
The day did not start well with game delayed by 1 ¼ hours. We rustled up some food for the late-night game and headed out on to a turf that more closely resembled a paddling pool. The rain persisted, our Fijian players ran twice as hard to keep warm, and although we could not find the back of the net, we defended well with the game ending with a score of 0-0.
As we needed a result, we headed to a penalty shootout and with Josh, our goalie, who having not touched the ball during the game, managed a fabulous defensive play and held out the oppositions shots on goal. The result was a victory to Mount Roskill and entry into the Super City A Grade competition, somewhere the team has not been for a few years. A great result for the team that is getting better and better each week.
