Nathan Sands competed in the 2019 College Sport Auckland Athletics Championships for the 2000m steeplechase where he finished 2nd. Also Sylvia McDougall competed in the 2000m racewalk (open grade) where she placed 4th, knocking 40 seconds off her PB (Personal Best) and still faster than the (now broken) college sport record time. Congratulations to these two students.

Hugs, tears, kindness, dignity, grace and grief. Sincere thanks to those who contributed to our assemblies today, your courage was humbling.

The endless stream of students in the library today making ribbons, cards and signing the banner supported by peers and staff was a place of love.

Whānaungatanga and manaakitanga were tangible today.

Prefects will be collecting donations for the victims of the Christchurch mosque shootings: Wednesday @ lunchtime, Thursday and Friday LCT.

Grieving together

Grieving together 150 150 Simon Whitlock

To our community

The Roskill Way is diversity. The Roskill Way is aroha. The Roskill Way is not me or you, it is us.

The ripple effect of the terror attack in Christchurch for our country and the students and families we work alongside at Mount Roskill Grammar School is far reaching. We are heartbroken and shocked. Our deepest sympathies to Muslim students and families in your grief.

Mount Roskill Grammar School will support students and families whose lives have been forever changed. Our school has diverse communities who relate together with kindness, care and respect – a treasured taonga. In the spirit of whanaungatanga we walk alongside the students and families of our Muslim community.

During these times it is essential that we care for our students and families who are affected by these events. Most importantly, we strongly recommend students not watch, share or repost any video of the livestream or manifesto posted online. To watch it is traumatising, it’s not going to help and cannot be unseen. If you need someone to talk to about what has happened please contact one of the helplines listed below this message.

We will follow our usual routines when school resumes on Tuesday while also supporting our students.

Arohanui,

Greg Watson

Principal

Final Day of ASB Polyfest cancelled

The ASB Polyfest Trust Board and ASB Polyfest Director have decided to cancel the final day of this year’s festival in light of the terrorist attack that has taken place at two mosques in Christchurch this afternoon.

Chair of the ASB Polyfest Trust Gregory Pierce and ASB Polyfest Event Director – Seiuli Terri Leo Mauu said this evening “the safety and well-being of our student performers, and the public that come to enjoy the festival is always paramount in our planning.”

“Today’s events in Christchurch have unsettled some of our performers, Polyfest staff, schools and our sponsors, and to respect their well-being we have decided to cancel the final day of the festival.”

“If the event had gone ahead there would have been a significant presence of heavily armed police at the festival which would not have been appropriate for Saturday’s family day focus at the ASB Polyfest.”

The organisers will be available for media queries, at the Manukau Sports Bowl on Saturday morning at 10am.
