We have 3 outstanding recognitions this year for The NIWA Auckland Science Fair 2018.

1st in Technology attached with Special Award
Arnav Kumar from Mr Presland’s Science class redesigned road humps that only react to over-speeding drivers! It’s called: SPEED TRAP
Arnav who also won 1st in Physics last year wants to acknowledge the invaluable help of his electronics teacher and the science dept. for this achievement.

3rd in Technology. Leon Nicholson from Mr Kwok’s 902 Science class
Titled: Ski Lodge Snow Melt System
Very Talented Student! Leon developed a programming code assisted with a network of sensors that efficiently remedy the snow built up the ski lodges. Deserving a higher placing, this project, but we will take the third!

Highly Commended for Human Behaviour Project

On Thursday 30th of August, the Music & Audio Institute of New Zealand (MAINZ) performed a free lunchtime for the whole school. The students thoroughly enjoyed the show and danced and grooved in the Butler Hall.

MIXIT Dance Workshop 150 150 Simon Whitlock

MIXIT Dance Workshop

A free dance workshop hosted by MIXIT, with international choreographer from Uganda, Antonio Bukhar took place recently.  The PFA department hosted this workshop in conjunction with MEAR – Middle Eastern African Refugee Awareness Week.  The students had a blast exploring a mix of dance hall, breaking, Afro-Fusion and contemporary choreography.

16 Aug on Niu FM – The Beat of the Pacific! The programme #NiuNights had Pacific youth joining daily in the Niu FM studio, sharing their music talents. MRGS’s Ella Mavaega sang live her original song “Fade Away” which has made the finals of Stand Up Stand Out 2018 in the dance category.

CONGRATULATIONS to MRGS Diversifire ‘Hip Hop’ crew who made it into the STAND UP STAND OUT (SUSO) finals. Isla Mayo, Sirannika Govindu and ‘Isope ‘Akau’ola lead this group and Jiordyn Hoeft contributed with choreography.

Fade Away

Possibly one of the most beautiful moments in the STAND UP STAND OUT 2018 heats, this incredible performance by Fade Away (Siraanika Goovindu and ‘Isope ‘Akau’ola) dancing to an original song by Ella Mavaega from Mount Roskill Grammar School. Wish them luck as they perform this piece at the Stand Up Stand Out finals Saturday 1st September.

KBB Music Festival Honours Orchestra

Congratulations to Rocky Parsons and Thea Dickson who represented our school in the KBB Music Festival Honours Orchestra at Holy Trinity Cathedral, Parnell on 10 August. What a fantastic opportunity for our students to play such spectacular music under a professional conductor and with outstanding musicians from schools around Auckland.

CONGRATULATIONS to the Concert Band who received a Bronze award for their performance at the KBB Music Festival last Thursday (16th August)! This is an outstanding achievement given the high standard of the competition and the fact that 11 of our 25 members are new this year and several have been playing their instruments for less than 2 years! Well done team, we are very proud of you.
