Arts

There is a strong performance culture in the school. Our music, dance, drama and cultural groups all excel.

Our musicians regularly appear at assemblies and are involved in and succeed in several competitions such as the KBB Band and Orchestral Festival. We also compete at Pacifica Beats, Rockquest, Stand Up Stand Out, the NZCT Chamber Music Competition and national competitions for Boys’ Barbershop and Choir.

There are opportunities for students to perform Drama and Dance works as part of the Performing Arts (PFA) projects, through our Performing Arts Academy at the junior school and through our connection with No. 3 Roskill Theatre project. We have won numerous Auckland Showdown Awards for our school productions. At dance festivals in the community and at TEMPO and YouDance we are highly regarded.

Our Kapa Haka, Mana Taiohi, is an integral part of the school, leading powhiri to welcome new students and distinguished visitors. They also represent our school at sporting exchanges and perform at special events in the school calendar. In addition to Mana Taiohi, various Tongan, Samoan, Indian and African cultural groups have excelled in representing the school in the annual Māori and Pacific Island Cultural festival and in community and national events.
