Mount Roskill Grammar School offers Basketball to both Boys and Girls at a competitive and social level. This year we have 5 teams competing. Three Boys team, Open Boys, U17 and U15 and two Girls Teams, Open and Junior Girls.

Mount Roskill Grammar School offers Basketball to both Boys and Girls at a competitive and social level. This year we have 5 teams competing. Three Boys team, Open Boys, U17 and U15 and two Girls Teams, Open and Junior Girls. MRGS will be looking to continue to develop players and compete at the highest level. The Open Girls currently compete in the Premier 2 competition, the Open Boys will be looking to go one step better than last year to win the Boys Open Grade, while the Junior Boys Premier team will be looking to emulate the great success of last year’s U15 team, which won the U15A Grade Auckland Championship. Students wanting to play social Basketball can play in the MRBA, run in Term 3 and 4.

When is Basketball played?

Basketball is a winter sport and is played in Term 2 and 3. The season starts week 2 of Term 2 and finishes early Term 3. The senior teams both represent the school during tournament week, later in Term 3.

MRBA takes place in Term 3 and 4, generally at a lunchtime or afterschool, in Gym 3.

What are the training commitments?

The majority of Basketball teams train twice a week and vary according to coach and gym availability.

What days are the games played?

The Open Boys and U15 Boys play on a Wednesday night at the Trust Stadium

The U17 Boys play on a Thursday night at the Trust Stadium

The Open Girls play on a Friday night in a Home and Away format

The Junior Girls Team play on a Thursday night at MAGS

Is there a cost associated with Basketball?

The cost to play Basketball for the school is $100. This is helped to partly cover entry fee, uniforms and transport. Student representing the school in two Basketball teams are required to pay an additional $50.

Tournament week is an additional cost. This cost will be included in a letter nearer the time.

Do I need my own equipment?

MRGS supply the Basketball uniform for all teams. Students are required to purchase a mouth guard. Mouth guards are now compulsory in Basketball.
