Career Department

Whaia e koe te iti kahurangi; ki te tūoho koe he maunga teitei.

Seek that which is most precious; If you bow down, let it be to a lofty mountain.

The Mt Roskill Grammar School Career Department supports the school’s mission statement and vision by assisting in the development of resilient, self-aware, career literate, confident, life-long learners, who are ‘active and responsible citizens’.

We do this by encouraging students to take part in the process of career exploration and assisting them in the development of their career management competencies.

This enables them to be confident that they are developing the skills and knowledge they need to prepare for, explore, and decide not only on their first career, but on subsequent careers, as they respond to the changing nature of work and the constantly changing demands of the workplace.

HOD Careers – Ann Hodge

Qualification: MEd, Grad Dip Career Development

Experience: I am a highly experienced teacher, and I have taught in New Zealand, Australia and Ireland.

Why I teach my subject: For students determining which of the myriad of careers that are available is appropriate for them can be very daunting. Being able to assist students to develop the skills and knowledge to navigate successfully through the process of career exploration is both enjoyable and energising for me.

Why I teach at MRGS: I enjoy being part of a vibrant multicultural community and I find the students are usually very open and willing to engage in conversations about their future.
