Teams: Teams are selected for tournaments based on training performance and past tournament results. Students have the opportunity to be part of a least three school teams throughout the year. Teams vary from Top 5 players, Top 12 Juniors, Top 12 Girls.

Competition: Students compete in various competitions throughout the season.

Intra school competition begins February (Mt Roskill Grammar School).

National Secondary School Girls Chess Championships: Thursday 7 August (Mt Albert War Memorial Hall)

Central Auckland Secondary Schools Chess Championships: Wednesday 12 August (Mt Roskill Grammar School)

National Interschool Finals: Summer Tournament Week (Mt Manganui College)

Australasian Chess Championships: December (Australia)

 Training: Students train every lunchtime (E9), although they are not required to attend every session. Girls ideally train Monday and Tuesday while Friday lunchtime is ideal for beginners and those wanting to learn how to play.

 Equipment: Chess sets and clocks supplied.

Parent help: We require all students to transport themselves to and from Chess competitions.

Cost: $25. Additional costs apply for students competing at national and international competitions.
