New principal

Congratulations to Mr Tom Webb, who has been appointed as Tumuaki|Principal from 2024, following on from Mr Watson’s 17 years of excellent service.

Mr Webb is an experienced Tumuaki having successfully led Māngere College since 2016. Prior to that he was HOD Mathematics, Deputy Principal and Associate Principal at Onehunga High School so he brings a wealth of experience. Tom has a Masters in Educational Leadership and spent a year at the University of Auckland Centre for Educational Leadership.

His proven educational leadership experience, interpersonal skills, community and cultural engagement were some of the personal and professional attributes which the Board were seeking.

His particular sets of skills, his motivations, and his strong passion in areas of making a difference for the diversity of tauira at MRGS, including Māori, Pasifika and priority learners are key to improving the outcomes for all tauira.

Some of Tom’s past and current leadership experiences include: lead principal for the Mangere Kahui Ako, Chair of the AimHi group of schools, and he is on the executive board of the Auckland Secondary School Principals Association.

Tom is looking forward to meeting the community and getting to know you. Tom and his family live locally and his wife Elaine (Webb, nee Cheshire) worked at MRGS in the early 2000s. Their three children attend or have attended local kura.
